Mark Leysen's work is an organic construct that alludes to physical space as imprinted on memory. The mark-making is both spontaneous in its immediacy, yet also melds with the more formal aspects of geometric forms. Within his work, color and rhythm are paramount in building surface tension and a sense of movement through the interaction of multiple spatial directions.
Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Mark Leysen has traveled over 10,000 miles throughout Western Europe and England. Leysen's art has been exhibited in California and Mexico in various solo and group exhibitions. Leysen was also a past recipient of an artist-in-residence grant at the UCI Storefront Gallery in Irvine. He was First Place Winner in the 2017 Studio Islands Art Center Annual Exhibition.
