Carmen Mondragón or more commonly known asNahui Olin, was a Mexican model, artist and writer who aided in shaping Mexico's art scene in the 1920's and 1930's. She was the source of inspiration for many of emerging artists in Mexico at the time and she is often recognized not only for her talent, but her striking beauty. Her green eyes were often accentuated in not only her own self portraits, but from other artists as well. Jorge's portrait of her follows in this tradition and beautifully accentuates her green eyes amongst a dark and light painting. The eyes are the gateways to the soul and in this case, Jorge's painting taps into this belief.
