Hong uses abstract visuals as her medium to connect to emotional states and activate inner experience. Her layered compositions are based on the subject matter of her daily life: home, places and current events. Waiting for Confirmations relates to her personal experience of seeking an answer during her most difficult life moments. Strangely, this painting transformed her feeling of anxiety from fear to that of curiosity.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Soo Hong immigrated to the Greater Seattle Area with her family in 2018. Previously, she lived in various countries across Europe, Asia, and America. Since she started her nomadic life in early childhood, she has always examined and responded to the world visually rather than verbally. Hong creates abstract images based on subject matters from her personal experience: home, place, and dream. After earning her master's in London, she created digital images combining hand drawings and watercolor paintings. Since early 2000, she has been working with digital images, videos, and paintings. Her works have been exhibited in New York, London, Seattle, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.
