A Duality of Worlds Duality Shapes My Art: Born in South Korea, raised amidst Seoul's vibrant energy, I now live in sun-drenched California. This geographical duality manifests in my art, creating a sense of existing across time zones. Simple calls to loved ones become complex equations bridging the day-night chasm. These experiences fuel my artistic exploration of connection across distance and the complexities of existence. Formal Training & Artistic Growth: My foundation in Industrial Design and Multimedia & Animation from Sookmyung Women's University provided structure and storytelling skills. Participating in Ventura's vibrant art scene (First Fridays, Art Walks) and memberships (Ojai Studio Artists, Buenaventura Art Association) solidified my artistic commitment. This journey led me to the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Sacred Spaces & Disorientation: I create "sacred spaces" (paintings & installations) that challenge ingrained perceptions of time, space, and self. These are not places of worship, but liminal zones where viewers confront existence. Through fragmented narratives and surreal landscapes, I invite viewers to question their spatial reality and embark on introspection. Inspiration & Interconnectedness: Inspiration strikes unexpectedly - a heartfelt conversation, a fleeting glance on the street. It's this profound human connection that fuels my work. I celebrate the interconnectedness of all living things, blurring the lines between the natural world and the human condition. Surreal Landscapes & Active Engagement: The resulting landscapes are unsettling yet harmonious. Familiar elements are juxtaposed, creating disorientation that invites deeper contemplation. Viewers are encouraged to become "lost" in these surreal spaces, actively constructing their own narratives with each encounter. My goal is not to provide answers, but to spark wonder and a questioning of what we perceive as real.
