San Diego, California USA
Denise Joy Chasin is a contemporary artist, originally from Maryland but who now lives in San Diego. Denise has always been artistically innovative. Before college she studied painting and printmaking in Florence, Italy at Lakefield College of Art and in Nova Scotia at Halifax University of Art. After graduating with a BFA from George Washington University, Denise lived in London as a marketing executive, eventually returning to the US to get an MBA from the University of MD.
For many years, while raising her family, Denise bred UK Shetland ponies for children with special needs, was the Executive Director of a National non-profit, and created a non-traditional school for grades K-12. Once her children were “launched” she and her husband left Maryland and headed to California with her five horses, three dogs, and one cat to spend more time in nature and paint. These experiences are the seeds of her creative process.
“As my life expanded over the years, so have my paintings. I see life as a development of consciousness which I translate into symbolic color, rhythm and form. Using many layers and my own glazing technique, I visually engage the viewer with a unique style that reflect my interest in nature, spirituality and abstraction. My paintings are light messages to the world and a way to articulate things I could never articulate. Spontaneity informs my internal visions that show up as portals. The circle, represents our never-ending existence and the spiral, represents evolution and growth of spirit – My paintings give form to a world beyond the physical.”
