Irina Metz
Yerevan, Armenia
Irina Metz is an artist from Armenia where she lives with family. Her art reflects decades of intercultural studies that she carried out during her multiple journeys around the world and while working on her PhD thesis. The pursue and perception of Happiness have always been the main theme of Irina’s studies in literature, history, culture, sociology and psychology making it only natural to find their reflection in her art. Irina’s paintings are her research of world's transformation from self-destruction to re-creation that humanity is passing now, the way towards conscious pursue of Happiness. Irina studied oil painting from distinguished contemporary impressionists including Bato Dugarzhapov, Grigory Kuznetsov, Svetlana Rumak and Federico Perotti to name just a few. Their techniques of transmitting elusive moments of beauty and joy to the canvas have been adapted by Irina to depict vivid impressions, treasured memories and colorful dreams in her paintings. Re-thinking their approach she is using two similar but conceptually different mediums separately or together. Vivid full-bodied images are created with oil colours linking my art to historical traditions of depicting eternal beauty of human and nature. Acrylic as a modern material implements synthetic canvas of our current living within artificial news and sublimated identities. Abstracts both in oil and acrylic make an important compliment to general concept reflecting deeper feelings and emotions evoked in us by the world. Through combination of eternal and modern elements pursue of Happiness in Irina’s art becomes a key to inner and outer Balance. The artist is exhibiting at international art shows. She has received a number of honoured commissions including paintings for private collections in Armenia, Russia, Italy, UK, France, USA and 5* design hotel in Maldives. In 2016 her work won the First Prize in annual Art Festival in Verona, Italy. Irina mainly works in her studio in Yerevan and en plein air during her multiple travels. “I wish my paintings help people to live through turbulent times and teaches all of us to treasure moments of Joy, celebration of Beauty and Life as they are.” “Reflections”: Universal codes unite souls in pursue of Happiness through encounters with other cultures, contemplation of nature and people in different parts of our beautiful planet. Most world cultures admit importance of balance between opposite matters: darkness and light, yin and yang, joys and sorrows, freedom and protectiveness. One hardly exists without the other and always finds its reflection in its own antagonist. Happiness is hardly found in extremes but is rather achieved in healthy balance. The viewer is invited to embrace all sides of reality and yet to pay attention to small instants of natural Beauty and Peace that can be found everywhere around us.
