Randall Steinke

Denver, Colorado USA

Randy Steinke fell in love with painting in college when he had painting and art history classes. He has painted ever since then but in intermittent periods. Life circumstances led him back to painting which he has now turned into a full-time profession. Randy paints in a figurative expressionist (colorist) style which uses bold vibrant colors on figurative subjects with the use of shapes to coalesce into an artwork. 2024 Covet Gallery (Oceanside, CA) – Abstract Exhibition - Juried Group Show – Mar 9 – Mar 23 2024 2024 The Lab on Santa Fe – I Am That - Juried Group Show – Jan 10 – Feb 10 2024 2023 Pirate Contemporary Galley – Holly Jolly Roger Outsider Show – Juried Group Show – Dec 8 – Dec 24 2023 2023 Dairy Arts Center – Portrait Gallery - Juried Group Show – Nov 17 – Dec 30 2023.

When I look at the world around us I see shapes, shapes occurring from texture, color, and light/dark. I use figurative images that are abundant with shapes, and work the shapes to make the composition fit into a coherent image. The composition is a process that involves interpreting, moving, and manipulating the shapes to create a harmonious image. Color is not a factor at this point in the development of the artwork but colors do start manifesting themselves. Once satisfied with the forms on the canvas, I began to conceptualize colors that complement the shapes. When I’m satisfied with at least one color, I begin to interject that color onto the shapes which always results in other colors reveling themselves. For me every artwork is a conscious experiment that lays the foundation for future experiments. Paintings My Hannah Series was started in February 2024 and is now 13 paintings and counting. In the series, I wanted to explore composition, color, and complex backgrounds (heavily influenced by Matisse’s portrait drawings and paintings completed in the 1930’s), and to improve my face, hand and foliage painting techniques.”
