Howard Jones received a BA degree from Kenyon College in Gambier Ohio and an MFA from Ohio University in Athens Ohio. He was Assistant to the Master Printer at the Trissolini Print Project at the Seigfried School of Art at Ohio University, and then Master Printer at the Washington University Print Workshop at Washington University in Saint Louis. He was the Master Printer in Residence at the Lakeside Studios in Lakeside Michigan. He taught Painting and Drawing, Photography and Printmaking at the John Burroughs School in Saint Louis where he held the Dreher/Collins Endowed Chair in Fine Art. He is represented by the Duane Reed Gallery in Saint Louis and American Primitive Gallery in New York. He moved to Weed, CA in 2021.

I have found the quotidian or common objects to be of profound interest and admiration. Tools and chairs and shoes come into my possession after they have fulfilled their intended promise. They have dug and chopped and painted and been walked and sat upon. As extensions of human effort, they are refined to their most useful form, elegant in their simplicity. I imagine for them another purpose, another reality, that pays homage to their function and potential.
