Artist Statement:

I am thrilled to be reentering the world of exhibiting artists after a significant hiatus from showcasing my work. With a strong foundation in art, I pursued my studies at Cal Berkeley and received my BA in art in 1972, followed by an MA in 1974. While living in New York, I had the privilege of showcasing my art at the esteemed Soho Center for Visual Arts. Upon returning to California, I embraced motherhood and embarked on a career as a realtor. However, my passion for art remained undiminished. I made a firm commitment to myself that if the opportunity to create art ever presented itself again, I would channel my love for color, puzzles, and minimalism. This led me to experiment with a unique combination of acrylic and gypsum, resulting in captivating and unconventional effects. Subsequently, I exhibited my work at the Concept Art Gallery in Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. The pinnacle of this period came when the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh acquired my pieces for its esteemed permanent collection. Later on, my husband and I began collaborating on our artistic endeavors upon our return to California. We proudly showcased our work at Jernigan Wicker Fine Arts and Takada Gallery, both located in San Francisco. However, upon settling in Malibu for retirement, we continued to create art without actively exhibiting it. Sadly, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2019. Since his passing, I have been inspired to explore a new artistic direction that breaks free from the constraints of minimalism. My recent works are untamed, rich in texture, and sometimes even sculptural in nature. This journey has allowed me a deeply personal and liberating form of expression. I am honored to present this sampling of my artwork for your consideration. Each piece reflects my artistic evolution, capturing the essence of my creative exploration and the resilience that has emerged from life's challenges. I hope that my work resonates with your gallery's vision and that it may find a new home within your collection.
