Raised in a tract home near the beach in South Orange County California, photographer Brian Davis’s visual journey has landed in a unique mythical western world as seen through the eyes of Dollar Davis. Inspired by the revolutionary musical scores written by Sergio Leone and his take on American Western films, Dollar Davis embodies a world where traditional iconic western themes and tropes take on a fresh graphic reinvention. The original artwork is conceived and executed digitally. All of the design and color is worked out on the computer. From the computer program, a simple line art file is created. That file is put into a large laser cutter. A piece of flat wood is placed into the cutter and the laser cuts out all of the elements from the line art file. Coming out of the laser cutter, the original piece of wood is cut into pieces resembling a jigsaw puzzle. The individual elements of the cut wood are removed and painted. All of the painted elements are assembled and put together.
