Artist Biography:

Currently residing in Sonoma County, CA, David has transitioned from a successful career in Research, Data, and Analytics in Silicon Valley’s high-tech industry to a dedicated pursuit of fine art photography. Originally from the East Coast, David’s passion for photography has been a lifelong journey, beginning in the film era and evolving through formal training in college and continued professional seminars and workshops.

David’s work reflects his artistic vision, using vintage film cameras and modern digital technology to create timeless images that capture the interplay of light, shadow, and form. His approach emphasizes composition, detail, and the emotional resonance of each scene. His work is deeply rooted in the expressive potential of the natural world, where texture, light, and color converge to inspire awe and wonder. Inspired by the masters who have shaped the art of photography-like Eliot Porter's pioneering use of

color and the classic black-and-white compositions of Minor White and Brett Weston. Always with a camera in hand, he seeks to transform everyday moments into art, allowing viewers to see the world through his eyes.

Artist Statement

In this collection of abstract photographs, I explore the boundaries between reality and imagination, drawing inspiration from influential artists whose works challenge conventional perspectives. Inspired by the abstract compositions of Aaron Siskind and the textural complexities of Minor White, I strive to reveal hidden patterns, colors, and emotions that exist within seemingly ordinary scenes. My goal is to guide viewers into a world where familiar elements transform into striking abstractions, encouraging a deeper engagement with texture, color, and form.

Siskind's approach to photographing the tactile details of urban environments influenced my work with textures and close-up details, as seen in images of rusted metal and fragmented leaves. I also draw from White's ability to capture natural landscapes in a way that transcends the literal, creating photographs that evoke introspection and an emotional response. Each image in this series invites the viewer to look beyond the subject matter and experience the mood and movement within these abstract compositions.

Through vibrant colors and layered textures, I create images that resonate with viewers on an instinctual level. These works do not represent specific places or objects but are instead visual explorations of energy, rhythm, and the beauty found in the unexpected. My abstract photographs serve as a bridge between reality and imagination, a place where the mind is free to wander and interpret without constraint.
