Artist Statement:
I have always been surrounded by all forms of art since childhood. One of my brothers is an artist (oil painter on canvas mostly) and he’s also a singer, so he has been one of my inspirations when it comes to art. At family gatherings, everyone is encouraged to perform (sing, dance, recite a poem), therefore art has always been instilled in us. I started my passion for music in high school. In college, I was an Engineering student, but did some fashion design on the side, and also had the opportunity to form a chorale group for a singing competition.
Fast forward to adulthood, my global travel involved going to concerts and stage shows, visiting museums and art galleries, and taking photographs of the places I’m visiting, their food and the locals.
When I moved to Los Angeles, I worked with a vocal coach for several years which led me to performing around Los Angeles, recording a CD and having a one-man show to an audience of 80.
My other passion is in photography. My love for photography intensified when I moved to San Diego two years ago, as I realized there’s so much beauty in it. I’m especially enamored by its sunsets and beaches. The pelican being exhibited at Art Scene West Gallery is a special one for me. I’ve always thought of Pelicans to be magnificent, but underrated. So, as I sat next to one of them at a San Diego pier, it started to take off and I’m glad that I had the presence of mind to snap a picture of it on my iPhone. I just love capturing special moments like this!
At this stage of my life, my focus now is on my photography and possibly continuing my singing around San Diego.About: I named this “The Take Off” because I love the beauty of a lift off to start a flight (or perhaps a new day) that could be long or short, bumpy or smooth, but full of surprises. As I was sitting next to this Pelican having out on a San Diego Pier, it started to take off and I’m glad that I had the presence of mind to snap a picture of it on my iPhone. I was pleasantly surprised that it came out looking like a water-color painting!
